Sergine Andre was born on October 12, 1969 in Verrettes in the Valley of The Artibonite River.

At the end of 1994, while on a trip to Toronto, Sergine had visited a post-impressionist art exhibit, which is where she discovered her calling to become a painter. After three months of intensive courses at the Ecole des Arts d´Ottawa, she came back to Haiti.

Haitian paintings is generally divided into two categories: naives and moderns.

The naive painters are known as primitives, and it´s been said that their style lacks artistic education and discipline. The modern painters have come to view the term - naif - as a negative connotation for the evolution of Haitian paintings. However, the term naive has more to do with independence from academic tradition, and it is a style that suggested artistic innocence.
