To own one of his paintings is truly to own a treasure.

Obin played an important role in the development of art in Haiti. He was one of the first applicants to the Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince, to which in 1944 he posted a curious painting (untraced) in homage to President Roosevelt of the USA as he lifted the hated Marine Occupation a decade earlier.

Le Chasseur - SOLD
The American watercolourist Dewitt Peters (1901-66), who ran the Centre dArt, bought the work and sent him an encouraging letter. Obin responded at once, announcing his ambition to become the historian of his country in paint.

He was soon salaried by the Centre dArt to develop a Cap-Hatien branch. In 1951 he travelled to Port-au-Prince to paint two important themes for the Sainte-Trinit Episcopal Cathedral: a Crucifixion on the central wall of the apse and a Last Supper at the side; Christ on the cross is shown surrounded by people of the Cape dressed to attend Sunday services, oblivious to the tragedy before them.
