1954
Jean Baptiste Chéry was born in Cap-Haitian in July 1954. His father was a bricklayer and the caretaker of the "Citadelle Laferrière", the famous fort built by King Christophe. Chéry holds a diploma in mechanics, but very early on drawing was his real passion. In 1973 he joined the art Studio of Philomé Obin who taught him what he calls "the primitive technique". Jean Baptiste Chéry started showing his paintings in 1980. Since then he has participated in numerous collective exhibits in Haiti, the United States and Europe.
