Jean-Louis, Eric
1967-
Eric Jean-Louis was born in Jeremie. He developed a very appealing style in which the images can best be described as serpentine. Lush tropical foliage rises like surreal snakes, surrounding a highlighted central subject. His paintings are often monochromatic, leaning heavily towards blues, greens, and sometimes reds and oranges.
The artist allows his imagination to wander deep into the heart of the Caribbean forest, transmitting a dream-like vision of it. The sugar cane fields that cover a large portion of the Haitian countryside, give the illusion of a universe where night and day merge to nourish the inspiration of the artist.
From 1977 to 1984, Jean-Louis exhibited in the United States, Guadeloupe, Denmark, Curacao, Switzerland and France. In 1983, he was awarded a prize in a poster competition sponsored by Air France. And in 1986 UNICEF chose one of his works for their Christmas card.
