Occasionally, Camille uses the symbolism from voodoo of the magical tree where offerings are given. His offerings are in the form of small pieces of an island, idyllic, Haitian countryside scenes and dreams of a country where life was peaceful.

Torchon, Camille
1963-
Camille Torchon was born in Port-au-Prince on July 16, 1953. He begins his painting career in 1973 in the studio of the well-known artist Murat St Vil, who belongs to the school of "Modern Primitives", created at the Galerie Monnin in 1970.
In his paintings, Camille Torchon evokes an image as though the ancient island of Santo Domingo rises up out of the water towards a peaceful harbor and bears hundreds of small islands in it's wake. Islands named: Seven Coconut Trees, Mermaid Island, Island of the Freedom Fighters, Mysterious Gonaive - all the paradise islands sailing in the Antillean Sea.
Occasionally, Camille uses the symbolism from voodoo of the magical tree where offerings are given. His offerings are in the form of small pieces of an island, idyllic, Haitian countryside scenes and dreams of a country where life was peaceful.
